Battle Of One
Battle Of One
Walking through the woods one day,
I stumbled upon a spring.
Something softly spoke to me,
My name it seemed to sing.
I was sure I was alone,
For I made great strides to be.
So I continued on along,
Until the spring changed to a sea.
Then I was knew I heard it call,
This feeling inside I felt.
When Suddenly I started to fall,
And my World began to slowly melt.
Left there falling all alone,
Slipping around in this void.
How was I to get back home,
Even more, had it been destroyed?
That was when I heard once more,
A bit louder than the last.
This time I was really sure,
That I was caught up in it’s grasp.
Looking up and all around,
I saw nothing there but white.
Then I heard a muffled sound,
Speak my name off in the light.
Looking out I saw the stream,
As I stood there on the shore.
Was this something in a dream,
What could possibly be in store?
Off in the distance I heard it howl,
It harmonized with the night.
His voice was powerful, deep, and proud,
As I tried to escape his sight.
It’s eyes were keen,
It’s eyes were sharp.
Its eyes they gleamed,
It’s they sparked.
It’s eyes they peered, they poked and they pried.
It’s eyes they knew, my truths were lies.
What is this beast who lurks so near?
This beast who seems disguised?
Prowling, moving through the night,
Hidden as if, masterfully planned.
From mans destruction, masked from sight,
The beast it scoured, it searched, it scanned.
What is this beast that haunts this land?
Or is it that It haunts my soul?
Has this beast been touched by God’s hand?
Intently searching for answers I may never know.
Inside myself I look to find,
To figure out this beast that hides.
From my sight and from my mind,
Gently moving as it glides.
Passing me as if to tempt,
I reach;
I grabbed,
I pulled at air.
Is this all something I’ve dreamt? ,
Instead I pull and find it’s hair.
I know it’s teasing as it passes,
Stalking it’s new found prey.
I hear it’s teeth as it gnashes,
Then I feel it come my way.
I feel it’s breath upon my neck,
Hairs standing on end as his tail whipped.
As if to demand his earned respect,
I turned to run, his reaction too quick.
Flat on my back before the beast I lay,
I fought, I kicked, I tried to run.
But alas, I could not get away.
The battle seemed to have been all but won.
Beaten I looked it in it’s eyes,
And it returned my weary gaze.
Then I saw to my surprise,
It’s eyes brightly as they blazed.
It’s eyes they burned.
It’s eyes they glowed.
My senses returned,
While my face it showed.
What I felt deep down inside.
Then I knew right away,
That this beast by my side.
Had only come, because my soul was gray.
And
As my life, flashed before my eyes,
I finally began to see.
That this beast had heard my cries,
And that this beast was ME.
Into my soul I dove I went,
Fighting so furiously.
That was when it all began.
I saw my real journey.
Burning light, shown bright from heaven,
Warmed my soul, enlightened me.
“It said that all can be forgiven,
If only thou trust in me.”
It said that “I didn’t Know.”
All the things that I’ve done wrong.
So the beast began to show.
Why it was here, singing me my song.
It said I lied,
I cheat, I steal,
I turned, I tried,
How could this all be real?
It reared it’s massive head straight back,
And with great precession it spoke.
“It told me that my heart was black.”
“It told me I was broke.”
Suddenly it all made sense,
The beast, the light, It was intense.
Then I let a deep breath out,
The beast it disappeared.
I turned my head all about,
Man this was truly weird.
I searched and looked all around,
Was it all just a dream?
Suddenly I heard a sound,
The mirror was beckoning me.
From the face that stared right back,
I could surely tell.
That if I continued down this path,
I would most defiantly BURN in……
